Celebrating 25 years of history: UIC Barcelona is having a party

On 2 October 1997, the Universidad Internacional de Catalunya was born. And on 2 October this year we will begin the celebrations of the 25th anniversary of UIC Barcelona with a mass in the Basilica of the Sagrada Família. The 2022-2023 academic year will then continue with a busy programme of events to commemorate this first quarter of a century of our university.

At the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya we are celebrating our first twenty-five years of history. The first quarter of a century began on 2 October 1997, when the Government of the Generalitat of Catalonia published the approval of a new private university in its Official Journal.

Twenty-five years later, on Sunday, 2 October, UIC Barcelona will begin celebrating this anniversary with a mass in the Basilica of the Sagrada Família, open to the whole university community, family and friends.

We will then continue with an event almost every month. First of all, we will mark the beginning of the academic year on 6 October; a month later, UIC Barcelona will join forces with the CMU Pedralbes to organise the sixth edition of the Antena Solidaria, a charity race along the trails of Collserola.

In November, we will pay homage to Jordi Cervós, the first rector of our university, one year after his passing. And in December we will host an exhibition of the original UIC Barcelona Christmas cards and undertake a trip to the Holy Land.

Two of the highlights of this anniversary will take place in May of next year: the international congress “A society that cares for us”, and the awarding of the honorary doctorate to Eduardo Bruera, head of the Department of Palliative, Rehabilitation, and Integrative Medicine of the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston.

Our twenty-fifth year will close with an Alumni event at the Palau de la Música Catalana on 21 June and the closing of the university year, which will be particularly special this year.
